20-Sided Rhymes Front Cover

The back cover of the new Hipster, Please! compilation, "20-Sided Rhymes" (which you can download for free at [link]).

The basic look is patterned after old-school 1st Edition Dungeons & Dragons modules, and the central image is inspired from the final encounter of C2: The Ghost Tower of Inverness. Like the back cover, there are lots of little jokes that immediately suggested themselves as I started working. A careful reader will see references to the Fiend Folio, A4: In The Dungeons of the Slave Lords, and more.

The washed-out look was created from a combination of parchment textures from iStockPhoto and judicious application of the Mister Retro Permanent Press filter. Additional distress added by scanning in damage to the covers of my 1st Edition Rogues' Gallery and my copy of Quag Keep, and adding a few masks and overlays using coffee ring brushes from BrushEezy.

Not much about this changed during the two-year development of this project. The biggest change was that the module number had to be upped to Z5 since Z. actually released a fourth compilation (the excellent Dr. Who-themed "Visitations") while we were still working on this.
